La Popular far precedes the growth and gentrification of the neighborhood but remains a decent spot to get pre-made tamales to go or supplies to make your own including their masa. Food has been more hit or miss over the last few years, would guess they are feeling the pressure of the increasing cost in the neighborhood and starting to skimp on some ingredients. I'm sure the demographic of their customers has really changed and I'm sure that's challenging. I'll still come by for some cheap and delicious tamales when I'm in the area though.

Came back for the first time in years and picked up some tamales, chips, and salsa. There’s something abt Popular’s tamales that is unique. Almost like al dente noodles, they are super firm which gives a satisfying bite to sink in to. YUM! The chips are very sturdy, great for dipping and the salsa is refreshing with respectable spice. The only thing keeping this from a five-star review are the high prices, but I get that this area, just like many in Denver is getting pricier. The price of being Popular.

I live a few blocks away and this is a great place to get your masa, tortillas, and any other Mexican foods, you desire. The staff is always very friendly.. I normally get a mix of red and green tamales with a pint of beans in a pint of chili. I also buy their masa to make my own tortillas. Great place.m!

They have really gone downhill in the past few years. Super dry. The red has a puréed mush that does not resemble meat but more like retried beans. The green tamales are ok. Masa is super dry. Workers are not friendly - at all and still want to be tipped. And pretty pricey too.
If you want some delicious tamales I recommend La Casita

This has been our go-to whenever we want delicious, authentic tamales! Their breakfast burritos and green chili are yummy and their pastries are amazing too!
